Appearance The Spanish Spotted Lobster (Scyllarides aequinoctialis) features a robust, flattened body with a mottled pattern of brown, red, and white spots. Its large, shovel-like antennae are key identifying features, along with its segmented abdomen displaying faint ridges and spots. Size Typically grows up to 8 inches in total length, with a carapace length averaging 4-5 inches. Habitat Commonly found in the western Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Prefers rocky reefs, coral structures, and sandy bottoms at depths of 10-50 meters. Behavior Nocturnal and solitary by nature, it shelters in crevices or burrows during the day. It feeds on mollusks, crustaceans, and other benthic organisms. Reproduction Females carry bright orange eggs under their abdomen. After hatching, larvae go through several planktonic stages before maturing.
