YOUR ARE BUYING 1 PIECE OF FULL GROWN SHAVING BRUSH MACRO ALGAE and 1 PIECE OF BRANCHING CORALLINE ALGAE

Overview

The ornamental Shaving Brush Plants are unique macroalgae you’ll want in your saltwater aquarium. Don’t let the Seussian shapes of these “plants” fool you. Though exotically shaped, the Penicillus species of plants are very adept at helping control excess nutrients in almost any marine or reef aquarium. In fact, just a few of these desirable members of the Bombacaceae family planted in your saltwater system can go a long way towards helping reduce nitrate and phosphate from the water column.Brush Plants grow in sandy shallow water fields throughout the world. They have a long, tubular stalk with a multitude of long, thin “leaves” growing in a feathered fashion, usually at the tip of the stalk. For the best care, plant them in aquarium substrate in an area that is well illuminated. These Brush Plants are also well suited for refugiums and modified sumps.

Most herbivorous fish and invertebrates will not normally consume this plant, but sea urchins may uproot and consume this species. In addition, the Shaving Brush Plants will benefit from the regular addition of an iron supplement, as well as trace elements.

Description

YOUR ARE BUYING 1 PIECE OF FULL GROWN SHAVING BRUSH MACRO ALGAE & 1 PIECE OF DRAGON’S BREATH ALGAE

Attractive and versatile seaweed for the display tank or refugium.

The red Gracilaria Hayi plant, sometimes also referred to as pom-pom algae, Dragon’s breath , is an unusually beautiful macroalgae. Between bright red and bergundy in hue and graced with sharply tapered, flame-like fronds, it adds a splash of color and texture to any tank. It is also prized by many keepers of herbivorous fishes (especially tangs) as a great live seaweed food.

Basic care.. Simply float the unopened bag containing your new algae in the tank for about 30 minutes to 1 hour to allow the temperatures to match up.  Then place the algae in your tank.  Gracilaria Hayi will not attach itself to rocks or substrate.  Please use rubber bands, glue rocks or a similar means to hold the algae in place.  Trim your algae periodically to directly remove the absorbed toxins from your water or use it as food for your herbivore fish.

Approximate Purchase Size: 3″ to 5″
